This conference calls on the Executive Council to pursue with the European Globalisation Fund Managing Authority funding for the retraining of Irish redundant workers in sectors of Irish Industry such as the construction sector where many thousands of workers are unemployed and in need of retraining to re-enter the workforce. Conference notes with concern that already in Ireland substantial sums of money had to be returned unspent in the construction sector and in the three programmes in support of redundant workers from Dell, Waterford Crystal & SR Technics due to the poor management of these funds. It is essential that such funding is obtained without any further delay and managed in a manner that ensures full utilisation of the available resources.
