Global Solidarity within the global trade union movement has never been in greater demand. The international onslaught on the lives of working people worldwide, particularly those living close to or in poverty requires a decisive response from civic society at large and the trade union movement must be to the fore in leading such a response. However, within ICTU, the Global Solidarity Committee has operated for the last number of years under the status of a. Time has come to officially recognise, on a permanent footing, the successful engagement by affiliates with: the on-going Development Education programme, carried out with the on-going support and assistance of Irish Aid, and; the significant introduction of the union supported campaign work of the committee. Conference therefore calls on the Executive to formally recognise the existing Global Solidarity Committee as a fully established ICTU committee with effect from the annual Global Solidarity Summer School 2013 in August.Prison Officers Association Kildare Council of Trade Unions Energy Services Union.
