Motion no: 33
Conference condemns the continued assault on the welfare of low to middle income earners by the Government, despite its mandate from the people to bring an end to the favouritism shown by the previous administration to those who are responsible for the State worst economic crisis. Conference rejects the Government economic and fiscal policies, which have the effect of allowing those who brought this country to its knees to walk away from their obligations and debt to the country and its people. Furthermore, Conference rejects the continuing policy of placing the burden for resolving this crisis on ordinary low to middle income earners and welfare recipients. Conference notes with grave concern the failure to ensure that those responsible should pay significantly increased taxes and contributions, to offset the banking debt which they played a major part in creating. Specifically, Conference instructs the incoming Executive to seek a reversal of the Government taxation policies which place an unfair burden on lower-paid workers and to campaign for the resumption of pay increases for lower-paid public and private sector workers, in order that they can play their part in stimulating economic recovery.
