Motion no: 13
Conference expresses its deep concerns at the growing number of cases in which older people are having their human rights neglected when receiving care. Much has been written about the subject but as yet, very little progress has been made to tackle the problem. As a first step to addressing this, Conference endorses the National Pensioners Convention Dignity Code which aims to provide minimum standards of care and treatment for older people in hospital, nursing care or their own home. We note that the Code has already been endorsed by Northern Irelands Health Minister, Edwin Poots, alongside a number of MPs and MLAs and call for the Code to be incorporated into the training of all care staff and form a requirement to which all care providers must abide.
