The effects of cutbacks on public expenditure and increased revenue raising took over out of the economy of the Irish Republic between 2008 and 2015. Not surprisingly, the consequence has been a downturn in economic demand and huge social consequences such as massively increased unemployment and emigration. As the economy has now begun to come out of recession, this conference resolves that it is essential that substantial pay increases be secured in all sectors to stimulate domestic demand further and to act as an engine for economic growth. Conference supports efforts to remove the fiscal straitjacket on government at Eurozone level to facilitate economic stimulus, including the restoration of public service pay cuts and the reversal of social welfare cuts.
