Motion no: 53
Conference notes the signi cant international developments since we last met, including . The adoption of the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris. The UN Sustainable Development Agenda (Agenda 2030) and its inclusion of Decent Work in Goal 8. The New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants. While these are significant milestones for the international community, they face serious challenges in 2017 with the rise of racism, right- wing populism, far right politics and climate change denial. Conference commends the work of the Global Solidarity Committee and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee in engaging on these issues on our behalf and encourages all af liates to continue to engage at Congress, trade union and workplace level. Trade Unions continue to play a crucial role in defeating Racial Discrimination. Conference believes that we must continue our efforts to combat attempts to divide ordinary people and defend the positive role migrant workers play in Ireland, and to tackle all forms of racism in the workplace and society. In order to achieve this, conference calls on Congress to launch a national Stand up to Racism campaign As part of this campaign Congress will: Provide guidance to trades councils on working with local decision makers and community groups to dispel myths about migrant workers and refugees . Continue to campaign on ending the Direct Provision System and in doing so providing opportunities for education, training and decent work for those within it. Use every opportunity to publicise the bene ts of migrant workers to the national and local economy and encourage them to join a trade union. Encourage af liated unions to share and promote good-practice aimed at countering all forms of racism in the workplace. Seek to include anti-racist workplace strategies in our collective bargaining agendas.
