Conference notes that 2018 marks the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the Civil Rights campaign against sectarianism and discrimination. Conference recognises that the Civil Rights Movement brought together a wide range of political and social activists, including trade unionists, to demand civil rights for all using peaceful and non-violent means.

Conference pays particular tribute to trade unionists past and present who took courageous stands in the 1960s and whose work went on to influence the current position of the trade union movement today on equality and human rights. These include the notable contributions of trade unionists such as Inez McCormack, Joe Cooper, Eamonn McCann, Anne Hope, Jack Hazzard and the countless others whose courage has helped shape our present day agenda.

On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary, Conference calls on the Northern Ireland Committee to mark this milestone and to reaffirm our commitment to securing a society built on equality and human rights.
