Conference welcomes the launch of the Joint Declaration of Protection produced by Confederation of British Industry, Federation of Small Business, Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
Conference recognises that unaddressed community divisions, sectarianism, racism and other forms of prejudice still have the potential to disrupt the workplace and our society. Crossing ones fingers and hoping that things won’t go wrong in the future is not a credible government policy option to address the causes of prejudice within our population.
Conference, therefore, believes that the Joint Declaration, if given actual life in the workplace, may be a significant example of practical steps that can be taken to build tolerance and respect within our society.
Conference calls on the incoming NIC to develop a strategy with the employer’s organisations to ensure that all the components of the Declaration are fully implemented in our workplaces.
