A national alliance of over 40 social inclusion, development, environment and trade union groups and networks, marked the 2nd anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with a march in Dublin City Centre on Monday 25 September 2017.
Coalition 2030 was set up to campaign for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were signed at the UN in New York on 25 September 2015 and provide a universal framework, with 17 goals and 169 targets, which aim to change the way all countries work towards eradicating extreme poverty, ending hunger and tackling climate change.
Speaking at the march, David Joyce, Congress Equality Officer said: "Civil Society stands ready and waiting to partner with the government in working together towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and creating a better future for everyone."
The trade union movement played a significant role in the development of the SDGs however, two years later there is still no plan by the Irish government on how the goals will be implemented both at home and abroad. This is particularly urgent now with Ireland due to present its Voluntary National Review on our progress on the SDGs at the UN in July 2018.
