The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. We condemn the killing of children and civilians in Gaza, the occupied Palestinian territories, and Israel. We support the strong stance that the Irish government has taken on this issue to date at international level.
Congress calls upon governments and others to get behind the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign. We also urge government to support the Occupied Territories Bill.
We believe these six steps below, along with the release of all hostages including all Palestinians, represent a road map to peace and security for people of the region.
• Immediate humanitarian ceasefire, guaranteed by the U.N.
• Immediate entry to Gaza for life-saving humanitarian aid including water, food, fuel, and medicine
• UN protection for the 2.3 million Palestinian civilians trapped under siege in Gaza
• A rejection of ethnic cleansing
• A comprehensive military embargo on Israel
• A full and swift investigation by the International Criminal Court into war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the crimes of genocide and apartheid.
