The Congress Construction Industry Committee including OPASTI, SIPTU, UNITE, TEEU and BATU met earlier today. The meeting was organised to discuss the recommendation of the Labour Court in respect of a Sectoral Employment Order for the Construction Industry.
It was unanimously agreed that we would seek the implementation of the Labour Court Recommendation from the 13th July 2017. It was further agreed that we would seek agreement with the employers to extend the current travel time arrangements to provide for the payment of a minimum of one hours travel time per day for every worker in the Construction Industry.
Congress will be writing to the Minister later today seeking her agreement to have the Labour Court Recommendation implemented from the 13th July 2017 and we will be seeking an urgent meeting with the CIF to discuss and address these matters.
