Congress has written to the Colombian Ambassador to express in the strongest possible terms our outrage at the recent detention of the trade union leader Huber Ballesteros and to call for the necessary steps to be taken to ensure Mr Ballesteros is released without delay. We have also requested Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore to raise the issue with the EU and with the Colombian authorities. More here.
