The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has paid tribute to Assistant General Secretary Peter Bunting, on the occasion of his retirement from the post, following 16 years of service.
Congress General Secretary Patricia King said: "Peter deserves enormous credit and thanks for the work he has carried out over the last 16 years, on behalf of working people across the island of Ireland.
"His tireless work in the cause of peace and reconciliation, both within Northern Ireland and on a cross-border basis is especially significant and was critical to building the peace. In addition, he also played a key role in the global trade union movement's work of conflict resolution and justice.
"On behalf of the trade union movement on this island I want to thank Peter for his dedicated service and wish him well in his retirement," Ms King said.
Peter Bunting will be replaced in the role of Congress Assistant General Secretary by Owen Reidy.
