At a further meeting of the Labour Market Stakeholder group convened by the Department of the Taoiseach last evening to consider the most up to date position in relation to Covid 19, Congress General Secretary, Patricia King requested that particular consideration be given to the situation facing workers who may be required to care for children at home in the coming weeks and who are not covered by collective agreement provisions dealing with this exigency and who may receive no payment during this period.Congress put forward a proposition for consideration which would involve those workers being in receipt of the State Parental Leave payment for the duration of this emergency.
Congress also proposed that in relation to those workers who may face Lay Off, an enhanced Short time working Scheme, in line with that previously put forward to take account of a No Deal Brexit scenario should be actively explored with a view to preserving a substantive portion of workers' net income. It was agreed that further engagement would take place.
