Congress General Secretary David Begg has welcomed new proposals from Government on collective bargaining rights and said they "appeared to deal with all the key issues, from a trade union point of view."
Mr Begg said that while legislation had not yet been drafted to give effect to the proposals,'the scope of what was agreed by Government represents a very real delivery on a political commitment and appears to deal with the key issues and concerns of trade unions.
'this includes enhanced protections against victimisation - including preventing a dismissal from taking place, enshrining a clear definition of collective bargaining in law and bringing clarity to the role and rights of trade unions in the workplace.
"While we will give a more detailed response when the draft legislation becomes available, it is clear that the proposals – if realised in law – will constitute a substantial advance for trade union rights in Ireland," Mr Begg said.
