The Congress Women's Committee has urged all union members to support and respect the efforts of Mandate Trade Union members in Tesco who are resisting attempts by management to unilaterally impose changes to the contracts of employment for some 250 workers.
Representing over 360,000 female union members the Committee urged all shoppers to respect the pickets placed on stores by the striking workers and to continue to show strong support for the striking Tesco workers.
"All women workers recognise the importance of the issues involved in this dispute. If Tesco succeeds in tearing up the pay and conditions of employment of its retail staff, the other retail outlets will be tempted to follow suit," said Melissa Brennan, Secretary to the Committee.
