The Irish Congress of Trade Unions Global Solidarity Committee has welcomed the "long overdue" release from prison in Egypt of Ibrahim Halawa and looks forward to his arrival home in Ireland and being reunited with his family.
Congress International Development Officer David Joyce, said:'this news will be warmly welcomed by trade unions who have been involved in campaigning for Mr Halawa's release for some time now, most recently at our Global Solidarity Summer School in August. We are happy to learn that Mr Halawa Ibrahim will now finally be able to return to his home in Dublin.
'throughout the campaign, we partnered with Amnesty International and others calling for his release. The campaign demonstrates that people can make a real difference. Ibrahim's release would never have occurred without the determined and dignified campaigning of his family and we hope they are reunited without delay and that Mr Halawa can get on with his life.
