The Irish Congress of Trade Unions attended a stakeholders’ briefing with officials this afternoon following the public health decisions taken by Cabinet.
Ms King said:
“Congress fully supports the new advice for everyone to work from home unless it is absolutely necessary that they attend in person. We have to continue to be cautious given the levels of transmission and hospitalisation and the unremitting strain on our health workers.
She said: “The Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) proved to be vital in maintaining social cohesion and widespread support for the public health measures during the lockdown of the country. If this goodwill is to continue during these latest restrictions, affected workers continue to need assurance from Government that their income is adequately protected.
Ms King added: “Equally, an urgent review of the adequacy of supports for businesses in the night life industry is needed to guarantee jobs will be there for workers to return to when these restrictions are lifted.”
