The Executive Counc il of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions met recently with Minister for Finance & Public Expenditure and Reform, who outlined the need for "a new form of engagement with the trade union movement."
Minister met and addressed the Executive Council of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions on March 21 for a wide-ranging discussion on a number of key issues, including: Brexit, Housing, Pensions, Pay Equality, Public Services and Decent Work.
On the needs for a "new form of engagement" with the trade union movement, Minister Donohoe said that his was a view that was shared by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, TD
Congress General Secretary Patricia King highlighted the fact that workers in Ireland still had no right to collective bargaining and that wider engagement on a number of key issues was required.
She said workers in Ireland faced a number of key deficits, including an absence of affordable housing, a lack of Decent Work and quality public services.
Ms King said that instead of focusing on tax cuts, the government should concentrate on boosting the Social Wage.
