The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is to stage a Protest Picket at the offices of the European Commission in Dublin on Wednesday February 29, as part of the European Trade Union Day of Action.
The Day of Action will see unions in 27 countries across Europe stage a series of coordinated rallies, protests and pickets to demand the introduction of policies to create jobs and boost growth in the region. It has been organised by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), to which Congress is affiliated.
The European Trade Union Day of Action takes place on the eve of the European Summit (March 1-2) which will discuss the proposed Fiscal Compact.
The ETUC has rejected the Fiscal Compact and called instead for the introduction of a Social Compact.
